Camper Expectations
1. Focus: As always, our focus here at Roanoke Christian Camp is simply Jesus Christ. Heartfelt worship, Bible study, Christian fellowship and encouragement are essential to a growing, personal relationship with Christ, and are included in all camp curriculum.
2. Behavior: Christian conduct is expected at all times. Discipline is important. Courtesy and good manners along with cooperative, Christian attitudes are expected. The dean and faculty, in consultation with the manager, have authority to send home anyone who refuses to cooperate. Everyone must stay within the bounds of the camp and abide by the schedule unless excused by the dean.
3. Dress: Keep in mind as you pack for camp, that you should glorify God in all that you do and the way that you dress. Modesty and decency must prevail at all times. No extremes in dress will be permitted — such as plunging necklines, spaghetti straps, bare midriffs, strapless, short shorts or dresses, immodest tight apparel, 2-piece tankini or bikini swim suits, or shirts with inappropriate words and/or slogans. Shoes are to be worn at all times. If your style of dress is considered inappropriate by the dean or dorm parents, you will be expected to change.
4. Medications: All medications must be in their original containers with correct dosage clearly marked. All medicines must be turned over toand dispensed by the Camp Nurse. All sickness or injuries must be reported to the Camp Nurse.
5. Cell Phones: Our Christian camp experience is a blend of indoor and outdoor activities. To enjoy this experience completely, the camper needs to spend a week away from “the world”, which includes not bringing a cell phone to camp. We ask parents to honor this request and ensure that your camper does not bring a cell phone to camp. Any cell phones that are brought to camp will be collected at registration and returned to parents at check-out. There is a telephone for emergency use only through the Camp Dean.6. Stuff: Pets, playing cards, radios, CD players, MP3 players, pagers, two-way radios, video game systems, magazines, comic books, novels, pocket knives, prank items, shaving cream, and the use of tobacco and drugs (other than prescribed medications) are not permitted in camp. Personal game systems are ONLY permitted during Tech camp.
7. Homesickness: Campers are encouraged with understanding and compassion to stay at camp and participate in the program. We do not encourage campers to talk to a parent/guardian on the telephone. However, camp personnel will communicate with parent/guardian if necessary.
8. Concerning Baptism (immersion only): If a camper desires to be baptized at camp, the Camp Dean will phone the camper’s parents for permission. No invitation for baptism is given to younger campers. Roanoke Christian Camp baptismal certificates will be sent to the camper’s home.
9. Food Items. Please! No outside food allowed.
10. Cars: Cars driven to camp by campers will be parked and the keys left with the Camp Dean during the week.
11. Mail: Campers may send out mail from the Camp Office. Campers should bring paper, envelopes and postage stamps with them. Campers may also receive mail while at camp. Please do not send food!! Food items will be confiscated. Camper mail is distributed every day at lunch. Camp Staff is not responsible for delivering mail that does not inlude camper's name and name of camp.
12. Leaving Camp: Because leaving camp for other activities and pursuits is disruptive to the program, each camper is asked to remain at camp for the full program (emergencies excepted). If at any time the camper has to leave, a parent will have to sign their camper out and back in upon return.
